We are delighted to share news of a wonderful partnership that has brought comfort to children across Oxfordshire. Volunteers from Project Linus UK have donated a collection of beautifully handmade quilts and blankets to young people supported by our network, demonstrating the power of community kindness in action.

Project Linus UK is a volunteer organisation with a simple but powerful mission: to provide love, security, warmth and comfort to children who are sick, disabled, disadvantaged or distressed. They do this through the gift of new, homemade, washable quilts and blankets, each one lovingly made by volunteer knitters and quilters across the country.

The Gift of Comfort

The blankets arrived at a time when many families were facing challenges, and the timing could not have been better. Each blanket carries with it a message of care from someone who may never meet the child who receives it, yet has spent hours creating something beautiful just for them.

For children going through difficult times, whether that means illness, family upheaval, or other challenges, a soft blanket can provide more than physical warmth. It becomes a tangible reminder that someone cares, a comfort object that travels with them through whatever lies ahead.

Handmade with Heart

What makes Project Linus blankets special is that every single one is handmade. Volunteers across the UK, many of them experienced quilters and knitters, donate their time and materials to create these gifts. Some blankets feature bright, cheerful patterns; others use softer colours designed to soothe. Many incorporate themes that children love, from animals to favourite characters.

The Oxfordshire branch of Project Linus has been particularly active, with volunteers meeting regularly to work on quilts together and sharing patterns and techniques. Their dedication means a steady supply of blankets reaches children throughout our county who need them most.

A Partnership in Kindness

This donation represents exactly the kind of community collaboration that Oxfordshire Kindness Wave was created to foster. By connecting generous makers with children who need comfort, we can multiply the impact of individual acts of kindness.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Project Linus UK and all their volunteers. Your work makes a real difference in the lives of young people across Oxfordshire, and we are honoured to help share that kindness with children who need it.

If you are interested in volunteering with Project Linus, whether you can knit, crochet, or quilt, they would love to hear from you. Visit their website to find your local coordinator and learn how you can contribute to this wonderful cause.
